PBA ’08 Draft – WTF SMB!

August 31, 2008

I can’t believe San Miguel Beer (SMB) traded away their first draft pick (third over-all) to Talk N’ Text (TNT) for Jay Washington. Was it worth it? I mean, you gave up the chance of landing a Jason Castro for JUST JWash. Naman. Having Castro in the line-up means SMB already has a sureball pointguard in him. Someone who can instantly fill Olsen Racela’s shoes once the veteran playmaker retires. Someone not in the league of cool-cashing, inconsistent Mike Cortez who can be dispensable once they get Castro. This trade won’t definitely make any sense if there’s no one else included.

Hay, SMB. You never cease to amaze me. I cannot believe I will be cheering for JWash next season.

I agree with your comments. SMB Management is really hard to understand these past few years in selecting talents in the draft.

An SMB insider named Than though revealed that the reason for JWash is to have a backup for DS para daw di masyadong bugbog or babad sa laro. Yun daw ang reason kung bakit madalas silang ma-injued ni DI.

Hi Richard, thanks for the comment. 🙂

Anyway, yes. I have read Than’s comment in PEx. As I see it, SMB chose to fill a need rather than to pick the best available talent in the draft. SMB may benefit on that in the coming conferences and possibly get a championship if all things turn out well. But how about in the long run? In a year or two, the two Danny’s will retire na. And JWash may be what, 27 or 28 years old? Aging na din. As I said, “JCas na nga naging JWash pa”. LOL

But anyway, here’s to hoping that SMB (thank God it’s not Magnolia anymore) will do better next season. After all, fans just like two things: (1) to be entertained, and (2) for the team to win games, and eventually, the championship. 🙂
