Advanced DS on its way

September 30, 2008

It has been reported by a number of game websites, quoting Japanese media co. Nikkei, that Nintendo will launch the newest iteration of the DS later this year. It will feature a built-in camera, improved wireless function, and music playback, among others.

Hmmm… It seems Nintendo is following Sony PSP’s path (read: focus on multi-media capabilities). Many people might not like the idea of having such features in their handlheld gaming device. After all, it is a “gaming” device. But for me, the built-in camera is a welome addition. I am excited about how Nintendo and third party game developers would exploit it. The games may be similar to this. I might buy the new handheld but not on the launch date. I still have tons of games to finish with my DS lite.

Anyway, with Nintendo neither denying nor confirming the new DS rumor, one can just easily dismiss it as a fact. Especially when the giant gaming company said something like this in response to the rumor:

We are always developing new products. However, since nothing has been announced officially, we are unable to comment at this time.

Let’s just wait for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show that will be held on October 2. Nintendo will probably announce its next handheld there.

Too bad I got my new DS just last month. (Screw you, Nintendo!)
